Sam Wilde was commissioned by the V&A to create an evolving fine art pattern formed from over one thousand hand-drawn wooden Frog Tessellation tiles.

Every tile is entirely unique and hidden inside of a sealed booster pack, accompanied by an envelope containing a corresponding art print identifier card. Upon arrival, visitors are invited to first open their booster pack and then place their tile onto the installation platform however they choose.

Equi- II draws on Japanese spatial philosophies of ma (the space in between) and ma (that what is left untouched). Where meaning lives not only in the individual tiles but in the quiet relationships between them.

There is no fixed composition, participants are free to either leave previously placed tiles or to move them around. What emerges is a portrait of personal choice, some thoughtful and some impulsive, a living tapestry of decisions.
Presented on Spelk, an innovative architectural material by artist Orla Lawn.
